You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you
Songs of Solomon 4:7
It’s easy to look in the mirror and see nothing but flaws. It’s easy to hear the labels: “You’re too quiet,” “too shy,” or on the other hand, “too bold” and “too much.” The thoughts echo in your mind, telling you that you’ll never be good enough. You remember all the times you’ve failed, and those moments seem to define you. They leave you feeling broken, ashamed, and even hating yourself.
Eventually, the questions begin to flood your heart. Can I ever forgive myself? Can I ever truly love myself? You’ve tried to heal by covering your wounds in different ways, but the pain often remains. The insecurities grow deeper. You wonder if anyone really sees you. You find yourself reaching for makeup, chasing the latest trends, doing whatever you can just to feel noticed. But no matter what you try, it still doesn’t feel like enough.
What would happen if we looked back at the Creator, rather than the creation?
Many of us fall into the habit of looking away, and when we do, we lose sight of our Creator. When we forget who made us, we begin looking to other people and things to tell us who we are. We allow false identities to speak over us: identities that were never meant to define us. We start believing lies that distort the beautiful image God placed within us.
But something powerful happens when we shift our focus back to the truth found in God’s Word. There is life and healing when we remember what has already been written about us.
You were created in the image and likeness of God. He formed your inward parts. He knit you together in your mother’s womb. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
God reminds us that we were created with care, intention, love, and a divine purpose. You are not an accident. You are not forgotten. You are uniquely designed by the hands of your Creator. You are an original. You are one of a kind. You are deeply loved. You are wanted. You are cherished.
The Bible says,
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God”
1 John 3:1
You were created to understand your true identity: a child of God. There is nothing like the love the Father has for you and He wants you to know that. The same God who holds all authority and power lovingly took His time to create you. He did it with purpose. He did it with joy. That truth is unshakable and can never be taken away from you.
I encourage you to receive that great love today. And from that place of love, begin to love yourself. Because you were created by love and for love.
